Karen from the Midwest

Journey into a Complete IA Bespoke Wardrobe

Journey into a complete IA wardrobe, and you will find a dream come true. Clients express this sentiment to us during each collection we create. This is a part of one such story.

Meet Karen, an Ivey Abitz enthusiast. Originally from the Western U.S., she moved to the Midwest and has devoted her life to nursing, helping others, and raising her children.

Karen wears her Ivey Abitz Hambledon Duster Coat and Fennefleur Frock on a walk.

Discovering Ivey Abitz, Karen fell head over heels for the aesthetic and philosophy of the collection. Her enthusiasm inspires us as she carefully chooses garments from each collection to build her everyday wardrobe.

Karen wrote us a note recently about her journey into a complete IA bespoke wardrobe. Thanks to Karen for allowing us to share her words with the rest of the world.

Ivey Abitz garments don’t distract from the inner woman, and that is why I love them so much. Our society/culture has in some ways gone to the other extreme and exposed women’s bodies more. Being covered in these garments, I believe, is respectful to me, others, and God. It is abusive to sexualize women and distract from their inner beauty. It disrespects us all.

I love what you said in your recent note: “Authenticity and truth is more attractive than anything else in this world.” It is so true. And I like your philosophy of authentic everyday. I have started to wear my Ivey Abitz garments every day – to the grocery store, library, post office, etc.

Thanks for being one of the leaders of the battle against conformity in our society/culture. You not only believe it, you live it, you provide it for others – it’s wonderful! There is one thing I believe that we should all be one in, and that is one in heart. As long as we are loving, kind, and respectful then we can be one in intention and purpose.

I love and support your mission on Earth. I believe that in 100 years women will cherish an Ivey Abitz [garment] they might inherit or find at an estate sale and they will say, “Who was this Ivey Abitz? She surely made women look classy and beautiful!”

– Karen

New Ivey Abitz Website

New IveyAbitz.com
Ivey Abitz redesigned its website to coincide with the launch of the 2017 Spring collection

Ivey Abitz has launched a new website to showcase and sell bespoke clothing designs and accessories.

The new IveyAbitz.com is designed for responsiveness across multiple devices. Now visitors can view look books and shop on a smartphone as well as a desktop computer.

The website launch coincides with the debut of the Spring 2017 Collection. The collection includes over 140 designs and 52 fabrics. Clients select fabric from the spring palette for each design they order. Ivey Abitz then creates the design as ordered.

The new website enhances the bespoke aspect of the Ivey Abitz experience by adding several shopping features previously unavailable to Ivey Abitz customers.

One new feature is called “Shop by Look.” Clients can purchase directly from ensembles featured in the look book. They can order all of the designs featured in an ensemble, or just one. They can even select alternative fabrics. This method is indicative of the bespoke nature of the Ivey Abitz experience.

Another new feature is called “Shop by Fabric.” Clients view the current season’s fabric chart, select a fabric they like, and see a list of designs available in that fabric. This feature is also available on design category pages, where customers can choose to “Filter by Fabric.”

Shop Ivey Abitz by Fabric
Now you can shop Ivey Abitz by selecting a fabric and choosing from a list of designs offered in it.

Ivey Abitz started selling bespoke designs in 2006. It is a small company run only by the designer, Cynthia Ivey Abitz, and her husband, Josh Ivey Abitz. Over the years Ivey Abitz has resisted the temptation of selling wholesale to stores and has sold exclusively through their own website, IveyAbitz.com. The couple prefer to have a relationship with the people who wear the clothing. The newly designed website represents the company’s commitment to creating beautiful garments well into the future.

Philosophy of Clothing Design in the Ivey Abitz Limited Edition 2016 Collection

Bespoke Clothier Ivey Abitz Designs Philosophy into Dresses and Frocks in Latest Collection

Look No. 1 from the Limited Edition Collection, 2016.
Look No. 1 from the Limited Edition Collection, 2016.

Clothing designer Ivey Abitz has introduced her 2016 Limited Edition Collection titled “Endless Bloom.” The title’s eternal implication makes this seem like an unlikely name for a short lived Limited Edition Collection. But the designer invokes the juxtaposition with purpose.

The latest Ivey Abitz collection title refers to the inspiring bloom of the hydrangea, a favourite of the designer that lasts all through summer and well into autumn.

The designer expands on the concept in her artist statement:

“Endless Bloom refers to our collective being. Despite our temporal humanness, we have something inside all of us that is in endless bloom. Our garment designs seek to embody a glimpse of this eternal flourishing and blooming.”

This begs the question: how does a clothing designer get a glimpse of the eternal – something many of us just ponder?

Quite simply, it is the artist’s connection to the inspiration of Beauty. Some call it religion, others call it self-knowledge. Ivey Abitz calls it “a connection to our Creator that manifests itself when design elements come together to satisfy the desire for Beauty.”

The Ivey Abitz Limited Edition look book is available at the designer’s website IveyAbitz.com. Garments are made as they are ordered after clients choose from over 100 designs and a palette of seasonable fabrics.

In its more than ten years of business, Ivey Abitz has established a reputation for high quality garment construction which is all done in the USA.

Ivey Abitz says that a successful combination of form and function in clothing brings an internal peace that is expressed outwardly on the body.

Ivey Abitz believes that when we can experience peace here on Earth, we gain perspective, and we can see beyond the pain and sorrow of this world into the hope of Eternity.

This collection is a microcosm of the larger Ivey Abitz philosophy, as described by the designer, Cynthia Ivey Abitz:

“Ivey Abitz designs serve our temporal selves, embracing us with substance whilst representing the mysterious – yet intuitively Beautiful – space beyond time.”

Through that search for substance beyond time, Ivey Abitz hopes to help wearers discover their “Endless Bloom.”

Finding a perfect blend of quality, detail, and lifestyle

Atlanta, GA
Atlanta is a town that is quite conservative in fashion.

When I was initially told about Ivey Abitz Bespoke clothing, I was curious, but somewhat dubious that I would discover anything I had not already seen in the world of fashion. I have loved fabrics all my life, with memories of my Grandmother’s black eyelet dresses in summer and petal soft cashmeres in winter. However, living in Atlanta, as I matured, I realized this is a town that is quite conservative in fashion. Tailored designer suits or khakis with crisp cotton shirts seemed to be pervasive. I never felt “at home in my own skin” in these types of clothes. I longed for those eyelet fabrics with detailed cuffs and collars. My antique doll I inherited as a child had handmade dresses with little pin tucked skirts, ruffled pantaloons and even a velvet coat with fur trim.

I dabbled with many designers, but some were way too overstated and frivolous. Even with lovely fabrics, these garments felt like they wore me, instead of claiming my own sense of style. I also felt a commitment to garments made in the USA if at all possible. Years ago I had decided I would dress for myself and not need someone else’s approval for my own individual style. I even took a stab at sewing myself, but my design concepts were much better than the finished product!

So, when I looked up the Ivey Abitz website, I felt I had found my match!

My first bespoke garment was a sample, so I could test the waters before making a big commitment. Even the Ivey Abitz samples I purchased were exquisitely sewn with dressmaker details and lovely fit. I had finally found my bits of flounce and memories of fashions past, combined with modern styling, care, and fit.

I now wear my Ivey Abitz bespoke frocks and jackets whenever possible. I have dyed Easter eggs for my 2 year old grandson in my Midnight Striped Fennefleur Frock, blown bubbles in the park in my Crinkled Cotton Cozette Frock, as well as attended the symphony, ballet, and opera in those very same frocks with different combinations of jackets and accessories.

I have turned to Cynthia for advice and direction in planning my garments so I can optimize the possible combinations of my pieces. I have machine washed these beautiful garments and found they looked fresh and ready to wear almost immediately.

I hope others who are drawn to Ivey Abitz clothes will feel they are versatile and can be worn in a busy daily lifestyle as well as for special occasions.

Thank you Cynthia, Josh, and all the wonderful dressmakers who work as a team to create the finished bespoke Ivey Abitz clothing line. I feel these garments are definitely clothing for life that I am comfortable wearing.

Oh yes, I do receive numerous compliments everywhere I go in my bespoke clothing.

Gilbert Cardigan Inspired by Sailing Captain

Gilbert Cardigan for summer by Ivey Abitz
Gilbert Cardigan

The Gilbert Cardigan is a namesake of the dearest sailor and captain we’ve ever known, Captain Gilbert. He sailed the Great Lakes with his family, and his kindness left an indelible mark on us.

Playful stripes give a nod to classic sailor attire. The mix of different stripe directions give it a lightheartedness that is perfect for long summer days.

Wear over sleeveless frocks for coverage, camisoles for a twin set pairing, and collared shirts for an IA layered look.

The soft cotton (with a hint of rayon for strength) knit is thick enough to be opaque and thin enough to wear on hot summer days.

The finest antique buttons will adorn the front of each and every Gilbert Cardigan created.
